The Still Small Voice ... PDF Print E-mail

Scripture: 1 Kings 19:12
“And after the earthquake, a fire but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.” KJV

There was a 10 year old boy who received a watch from his dying father. The boy cherished the watch. Every day he put the watch on and thought of his father.

One day the boy was in a meat locker plant visiting his uncle. His uncle was taking him on a tour in a large locker with meat hanging everywhere. The locker was cooled by huge fans that pumped cold air all around the meat.

The boy stumbled and fell and his watch slipped off his wrist. Immediately he knew the watch was gone and frantically started to look for it. There was a layer of sawdust on the floor and the usual droppings from hanging meat.

After sometime he was frustrated and upset that he could not find the watch. Overhead he could hear the big fans blow and he could feel the cold air all around him. The cold air was now becoming an enemy because the longer he was on his hands and knees in the locker the colder he was becoming.

The boy’s uncle became concerned about the boy and found him on the floor crying. The watch was no where to be found.

The wise uncle moved toward the locker door and turned off the fans. He said, “Let’s  just  listen.” A few moments went by and they heard tic tock, tic tock. They followed the still small voice of the watch and in seconds the boy had the watch back on his wrist.

Now isn’t that just like the world around me to raise the noise level so high it will cover what is important. The racket of everyday life is so loud I cannot hear the voice of the Lord. But when I stop and turn off the racket and squelch the noise then I can hear the voice of God.

Father, thank you that you speak to me and help me to listen. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!
